SM220 Nance Holding Arch
Appliance Purpose / Function:
The Nance holding arch is a fixed space maintenance appliance generally used to prevent space loss resulting from bilateral loss of deciduous molars but may be used on the “E’s” if the deciduous first molars are lost prematurely. May be bent with recurved arms which can facilitate expansion or rotation of the molars.
Appliance Components:
- Bands on the 1st permanent molars or “E’s”
- .036 wire bend to a mid point in the palate
- Acrylic button placed against the palate
Suggested Materials:
- Wire: Chromium Cobalt wire
- Solder: Silver Solder (Cadmium Free)
Options:
- Laser welded (removes the solder)
Appliance Fabrication Standards:
- Band on both 6’s or both E’
- .036 wire bent close to tissue from bands to a mid point in the palate
- Slight bend in the wire at the mid line to prevent the acrylic from turning on the wire
- May be bent with either straight or recurved arms
- Acrylic button placed in intimate contact with the palate
